Supplies of Construction Material – Post Lockdown
Soaring demand has strained the availability of a number of key materials, contributing to construction costs rising at the fastest pace for 24 years, according to the latest Purchasing Managers’ Index.
New data from the government has revealed steel, rebar and timber have all seen double-digit cost increases since April last year.
Earlier this year, the Construction Leadership Council set up the Products Availability taskforce and In recent months, the CLC has added cement and aggregates to its list of materials facing supply problems, with timber, steel, roof tiles and roof membranes also on the list.
